The best thing I read this week (year)

I never wanted you to be twice as good as them, so much as I have always wanted you to attack every day of your brief bright life determined to struggle.
— Ta-Nehisi Coates - The Atlantic

Ta-Nehisisi Coates is a writer for The Atlantic who just came out with the much praised book, Between The World And Me. In the run up to the books release The Atlantic ran a piece adapted from the book entitled "Letter to My Son" which is a beautiful, haunting meditation on what it means to be black in America today.

This one of the most powerful things I've read in years, and it would be well worth your time to take a look. You may not agree with everything Coates has to say, but you can't deny that it is coming from a place of righteous anger and love.
