Best thing I read all week

Ian Urbina has a a running feature about the general lawlessness of the high seas that is running in four parts in The New York Times. The first two parts are up and available to read right now, and I highly suggest you do so. There's nothing quite like a media institution like The Times throwing the full weight of its editorial and art departments behind a story. In a week where it seems like the entirety of new media is sinking into a pit of its own creation, it's stories like this and Kathryn Schulz's New Yorker feature predicting at the Earthquake/Tsunami that will eventually devastate the West Coast that have everyone's attention.
